If you’re thinking of traveling to Alaska no doubt you’ve considered a cruise – they’re one of the best ways to see the state! Here are a few things to keep in mind when you’re booking to make sure you’ve got the right cruise down:
Look at the Activities: Even in a state like Alaska, the options are varied. Pick a boat that stops where you want to stop and also offers activities booked ON BOARD – this can save you money haggling once you disembark.
Ask for Extras: One of the greatest things about cruises is the cost – they can be quite cheap. If you can stomach it, wait until last minute to book and ask to be upgraded if you’re celebrating something special. Balcony rooms, rooms with Satellite packages and even Jacuzzi suites are yours for the taking.
Pack Well: Yes, it’s Alaska but that doesn’t mean it’s going to be -30 degrees everywhere. Pack in layers and be sure to remember that the boat’s going to be heated WELL – you may need lighter attire than you initially think.

Alaska has some of the most amazing National Parks in the United States. Denali National Park is a fantastic place for mountain climbing, hiking or backpacking. The breathtaking views are worth your visit, and you can view massive glaciers as well as wildlife. Grizzly bears, wolves, caribou and moose make for some excellent photos.

Kenai Fjords National Park consists of beautiful valleys that were carved from glaciers. The sea waters now fill these valleys, and are a spectacular sight that you won’t see anywhere else. The hiking trails will take you through glaciers for some rewarding surprises.

Gates of the Arctic National Park is the home to the last of the Nunamiut Eskimo, and while visiting the Park you may encounter some of the local residents picking berries, trapping animals, fishing or hunting. These activities are part of their daily lives, and their privacy should be respected at all times.

Katmai National Park is a great location to gaze at volcanoes. At least fourteen volcanoes can be spotted here, and they are all considered active. Wildlife is abundant, especially brown bear, so keep your cameras at hand. This is also the location of some of the world’s largest salmon runs.

Places with snow and colder temperatures are brilliant places to visit during the non-peak season. You will be missing out if you did not visit Alaska in the winter. The fun does not stop just because the temperature drops. People live a life outdoors in colder climates all over the world. Why should the temperature affect your holiday destination choices?

Take a some notes on a few unknown facts. Many places in Alaska are relatively temperate in comparison to other colder climate states and countries. You can handle 20 degrees Fahrenheit for a few hours at a time no problem. Also, it is not dark all winter long. Many places experience up to 13 hours of daylight.

What will you do with your temperate winter and sun-filled days? The options are many. You might consider snowboarding, winter festivals, northern light watching, skiing, dog mushing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, and more. Those are simply the things to do outdoors. You can also visit one of their many local restaurants, local breweries, museums, and other cultural activities. If none of this convinces you, it is most likely far less expensive, and there will be far fewer tourists. That would be enough to convince me.

The great state of Alaska is one of the true final frontiers on the planet with vast tracts of wilderness, snowcapped mountains, tundra flats, heavy forests, rivers and streams and its rugged coastline is longer than the other 49 states combined. Alaska is a major destination for rugged adventurers traveling to the back country for hunting big game, fishing for trout and salmon, photographing the primal landscape or just to observe the multitude of wildlife in its natural state. Alaska is huge with very few roads and much of the travel around the state is accomplished by bush plane. Bush planes can be chartered from all the populated coastal regions and they fly into frigid alpine lakes, fishing lodges by crystal streams and hunting camps throughout the state. Charter boats can be hired not only for fishing trips, but for wildlife viewing along the coastline.

Alaska has a wide diversity of wildlife to view; the great Brown bears can be observed feeding on salmon in many areas, majestic moose are found along rivers and mountain lakes, caribou migrate over vast tundra plains and ocean travelers are overwhelmed by a plethora of marine life. For wildlife viewing, Alaska is number one.

It is a majestic sight. The largest glacier is the Taku. There are rolling hills of water and ice that go on as far as the eye can see.
